One question our Boca Raton, Fl office frequently receives is: Which procedures are performed in-office by Dr. Bradford Ress? Because of Dr. Ress’ extensive medical training (and because he is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and fellowship-trained in otology, neurotology, and skull base surgery), he is qualified to perform multiple ENT-related procedures.
To help our patients better understand which procedures can be performed at our clinic, here is a brief overview of procedures performed by Dr. Ress at our office.
In-Office Procedures performed by Dr. Ress
Balloon Sinuplasty/Balloon Sinus Dilation
Balloon Sinuplasty is a minimally invasive treatment option for chronic sinusitis. The surgery uses an inflatable balloon to reshape the anatomy of the sinuses, expand sinus pathways, and restore drainage. The procedure utilizes small balloons placed in key places in the nose and sinus that are gently expanded.
The average procedure time is around one hour. Most patients are able to return to work the day after surgery. Balloon sinuplasty is proven to provide long-term relief from sinusitis.
Stereotactic navigation systems use a computer system and patient imaging to guide surgeries or the placement of specialized surgical instruments and implants during a procedure.
Endoscopic Sinus Surgery
For patients who are not candidates for balloon sinuplasty, endoscopic sinus surgery may be an ideal treatment to relieve symptoms of sinusitis. Dr. Ress uses an endoscope to examine your sinuses. He then uses a special micro-cutting instrument to remove obstructions or abnormal tissue in the sinuses. Within a short period of time, the sinuses should heal, and normal function will be restored.
Septoplasty is a surgical procedure that removes cartilage to correct a deviated septum. Dr. Ress may realign your septum or reshape and reposition cartilage. This procedure usually takes one hour to complete with recovery typically taking a few weeks at most.
Submucosal Resection of the Turbinates
Turbinates are long, narrow bones that line the sides of the nose. If turbinates become enlarged, they can obstruct breathing. Turbinate reduction surgery is a quick and pain-free procedure to remove small portions of the turbinates.
Nearly 20 percent of people in the United States suffer from allergies. Allergy testing is an important procedure that allows patients to know which substances they are allergic to.
Testing for allergies involves scratching the surface of your skin then delivering allergens with a small plastic device. Dr. Ress or one of our skilled staff members will then observe your body’s response. A positive response may require further testing. Based on your results, a customized treatment plan will be developed.
Immunotherapy (Allergy Shots)
Allergy shots are a form of immunotherapy. The therapy involves the use of shots at regular intervals of time. Each shot contains a small amount of the substance the individual is allergic to. These are called allergens. Over time, the frequency of shots can be reduced as the patient becomes desensitized to the allergen.
Patients who prefer to be treated at a hospital have three options. Dr. Ress has hospital privileges at:
- Boca Raton Regional Hospital
- Boca Raton Outpatient Surgery and Laser Center
- Aventura Hospital
